When is the right time to begin?
If you are like me and often procrastinate about how, what, when and why then you should be able to relate to this. Self-experience is the best teacher and here is what I have learned.Ask yourself these three questions and that should tell you when is the right time to begin
I have been delaying, postponing writing this post and then finally today at 4:32pm, I made up my mind to just begin and put an end to the accumulating guilt that is the bi-product of procrastination. I don’t know what was holding me back and I can come up with many different lame excuses to justify myself but I’d be lying to myself.
I look around me and I see people doing awesome things, giving back to the society and being creative and I ask myself “ When is the right time for me to begin?”
I have waited for New Years to begin with a new resolution every year, a new month to start a project.
I have waited for the rain to stop to start driving.
I have waited to get connected to the Internet.
Mondays to start waking up early, sunshine to begin working out, others to encourage me, holidays, and thus I have waited and waited and missed out on now!
So, today I believe the best time to begin or do anything i really want to do is now.
Now can be any day, anytime or anywhere and any moment.
If you (like me) have been waiting for the right time to begin, there are just three questions you need to answer to yourself because once you begin, you’ll be on the road; right now you are parked on the shoulder while others are passing you by.
The first question you need to ask yourself:
What do I want to do?
It can be to begin working out, raise funds for an NGO, find a job, plan a holiday or start a blog. If you’ve set your mind on what you want to do, then ask yourself the next question. If you are still contemplating on what you want to do, don’t stress. Go for a walk or read a book. Ideas come pouring in when you have an open mind or when you’re not hyperfocussing on the issue. This is where majority of us get stuck. I have been at this confused stage for more than a year. Looking back I realized, every time I wrote something, I felt accomplished and pleased. So here is where I begin.
What is holding me back?
The answer to this may or may not be as simple as you had hoped but at least it will get you thinking.
There may be too many people doing what you want to do and they may be better but hey, you are you and you have your own style and it is original.
You might worry about what people are going to think, but whether you do it or not, people will continue to reason. You cannot control people’s thoughts.
Who is going to fund the project? Well, it costs nothing to make a plan; a good presentation will attract good investors.
Write down things or situations that is holding you back.
Talk to someone you trust.
Find solutions because every problem has 2 or more.
What was holding me back was laziness or so I thought and then I stumbled on Ramit Sethi’s video http://tinyurl.com/z4gufrp
on how to finish what you started and here I am writing this blog.
What will happen if I begin now?
Hah!! What will happen if I don’t begin now? Well, nothing.
Your life wont change, it will be just like today but changes will happen around you and you will have to adjust, comprehend and meet challenges. People around will have success stories to share and you will be there to listen, which is good. You can become a good listener.
But if you begin now, today, this very minute your life will take a new route to awesomeness. So, what are you waiting for?
